Is the Information Accurate? (Accuracy/Bias)

Determine whether the information is fact, opinion or propaganda. Factual statements should be well documented and/or footnoted so they can be verified for accuracy. Check for bias by looking at the author or publishing source. Some authors/publishers attempt to influence public opinion by advocating or presenting a specific point of view. Look at the language of the source to see if it is objective and impartial, or emotionally charged. Ask yourself the following:

  • How is the information presented?
  • If the information is presented as fact, is it correct?
  • Is there evidence of bias?
