Credibility

Assessing Credibility

Credibility is that quality of a report, broadcast, or an individual that allows them to be worthy of belief.

A number of factors contribute to being a "credible" source of information.   Below are six factors adapted from Robert P. and Dale Newman's book Evidence.   Each of these offers important criteria that should be considered when assessing the credibility of information received from media sources.

  1. Objectivity/Bias
  2. Accessibility
  3. Freedom to Report
  4. Contemporaniety of Reports
  5. Relative Expertise
