Cal State Monterey Bay Library is pleased to welcome Dr. Baheya Jaber as one of our new Senior Assistant Librarians. Baheya Jaber (she/her) is a faculty member who holds a PhD in Communication and Information Sciences, with a focus on Social Justice and inclusion Advocacy, and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. She also earned her MBA and a B.A. in Finance and Banking with a minor in Business Administration from Birzeit University, Palestine. Her dissertation, Exploratory Social Justice Case Study Design: Operationalizing Public Library Services for Women Refugees from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region, investigates the information needs and seeking behaviors of MENA women refugees. Using a participatory action research approach, she collaborated with these women as co-researchers to design an Information Services Model (ISM), roadmaps, and Strategic Action Plans (SAPs) to help public libraries support refugees across key life domains, including health, education, immigration, work, social life, and basic human needs... Cal State Monterey Bay Library is pleased to welcome Dr. Bryant Taylor as one of our new Senior Assistant Librarians. Bryant Taylor (they/he) is a McNair Scholar and alum of California State University, Monterey Bay, where they earned a B.A. in Humanities and Communication (HCOM) with a concentration in Creative Writing and Social Action. They went on to earn their MLIS from San José State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon as part of the inaugural cohort in the Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies program. Their dissertation, Rehousing Memory: Black Queer Archival Practice and the Video Game, examines video games created by and/or centering Black queer people. It explores how these games theorize home and the domestic archive through racialized and queer experiences while positioning gaming and play as a practice of exploring the past and articulating desired futures...
